Summary: Vampires and werewolves have been enemies for centuries. At least, that's what a beginning horror buff would automatically assume. In truth, these two titans of terror don't encounter each other much in mythology. In film though, they're downright inseparable...
History: A long time ago, Alexander Corvinus came into contact with a bizarre virus that made him immortal. Two of his sons shared this immortality, and they were bitten respectively by a bat and a wolf. Thus, the first vampire and the first werewolf were born. Unfortunately, years of breeding resulted in the vampires becoming aristocratic twits who enslave the werewolves, known as Lycans. It hit a boiling point when the Sonja, the daughter of the current vampire leader, Viktor, was killed by her own father for daring to marry a lycan named Lucian. Thus, the bitter war between Vampire and Lycan commenced. Among the "Death Dealers" that the vampires have is Selene, who now finds herself roped into all sorts of twists and turns regarding the war, including plots about hybrids, finding love with said hybrids, and evil on all sides.
Notable Kills: See Final Fate.
Final Fate: Lots of monsters get their heads destroyed in awful ways, people get shot up and sliced up, but in the end, Selene quite literally reigns supreme. Not that it's a bad thing. She rules the vampires now alongside a few other worthy heirs. The war now stands a chance of finally ending without all the lunatics at the command. That said, Selene is convinced that the war is far from over.
Powers/Abilities: Vampires have inhuman reflexes, and are overall similar-yet-better than humanity. Lycans can (occasionally) turn back into humans, and certain advanced breeds are immune to silver.
Weakness: Anything conventional, though sunlight is lethal to vampires while silver is bad for werewolves.
Scariness Factor: 4-It's a good thing that humanity (for a time) has no idea that these beings truly exist. Otherwise, we'd be screwed. The vampires are efficient combat experts, and have the potential to become horrific bat monsters. The lycans on the other hand are absolutely savage beasts, looking progressively mangier and more bestial every time we see them. Any one of these species could easily take over the world...unless we use their easily obtainable weaknesses meaningfully. That, or just call Selene about it. Even then, she's kind of an a-hole about things.
Trivia: -If you can believe it, there was once a pitch to have this franchise cross over with Wesley Snipes' "Blade". Alas, Marvel wanted to have their prized vampire slayer contained in his own stories. Probably for the best, more or less.
-In 2011, a non-canon animated triple-feature known as "Underworld: Endless War" was released, detailing Selene's fights against some lycan triplets across three different time periods.
